Karan Johar's 'Homebound' in Oscars shortlist for Best International Feature Film

Mumbai, Dec 17 (UNI) Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar's 'Homebound' has been shortlisted in the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars 2026, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced.
India's official submission for the Oscars this year, the film has advanced to the final shortlist of 15 titles competing in the international feature section, placing it in a select group of films from around the world.
Produced under Karan Johar's Dharma Productions banner, 'Homebound' is directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, featuring Vishal Jethla, Ishaan Khattar, and Janhvi Kapoor in pivotal roles.
The film has made its presence felt on the international festival circuit, debuting at the Cannes Film Festival and was also praised at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Reacting to the news, Karan took to social media and wrote, “I am not sure I can articulate how proud, elated and over the moon I am with the journey of Homebound. All of us @dharmamovies are privileged to have this proud and important film in our filmography. Thank you @neeraj.ghaywan for making so many dreams of ours come true.”
Neeraj Ghaywan also expressed his happiness at this achievement. He said the love that 'Homebound' has received from all over the world is the film's greatest strength. According to him, it's not just a film, but the story of countless young people who strive to fulfill their dreams while grappling with the complexities of the system and society.
The narrative follows two childhood friends, Shoaib and Chandan, whose ambition to join the police force is repeatedly tested by systematic obstacles and social prejudice. The film sensitively explores the themes of friendship, duty, and the societal pressures facing young people.
