New Delhi, Dec 10 (UNI) Supreme Court Bar Association President (SCBA) Kapil Sibal on Tuesday called for the impeachment of Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, Judge of the Allahabad High Court, for his controversial speech at an event organised by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP).
Addressing a press conference, Sibal - also a Rajya Sabha member - expressed his concern about the judge's remarks and urged the Centre's ruling BJP-led NDA to support him to impeach the judge.
Sibal called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and members of parliament to extend support for the impeachment of Justice Yadav.
Sibal said: "Our Constitution also requires the judiciary to be independent and if such speech can be given by a High Court Judge then a question arises, how are, such persons appointed as judges," Sibal said.
The Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reforms CJAR) has also written to the Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna to conduct an in-house inquiry against, Justice, Yadav and withdraw judicial work from him saying his speech had communal overtones and unpardonable slur against the Muslim community.
