Kangra emerges as hub of natural farming; leads state in sustainable, chemical-free agriculture

Dharamshala, Oct 15 (UNI) Natural farming is fast emerging as a sustainable and health-oriented alternative to chemical-based agriculture, and Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh has taken the lead in promoting this eco-friendly practice.
The excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides has adversely affected soil fertility, environment, and human health. To counter this, the Himachal Pradesh Government has launched various initiatives to promote natural farming, with Kangra playing a crucial role in its successful implementation.
According to Dr. Raj Kumar, Project Director of the ATMA Project, during 2024–25, the department spent Rs 51.89 lakh to procure 836.94 quintals of naturally grown wheat from 358 farmers and Rs 4.83 lakh to buy 53.69 quintals of turmeric from 13 farmers.
