Kamal get both bouquets and brickbats after levelling corruption charges against TN Govt

Chennai, July 17 (UNI) It was both bouquets and brickbats for popular Tamil film actor Kamal Haasan who had alleged rampant corruption in the ruling AIADMK Amma regime, while defending his TV reality show 'Bigg Boss', which has come under attack from several Ministers and fringe Hindu outfits.
Ever since Hindu Makkal Katchi petitioned the Chennai City Police demanding the arrest of the actor and ban on the reality show as it tarnishes the Tamil culture and making fun of Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu (Tamil invocation song), Kamal has been faving ire from various quarters.
Another fringe outfit staged a protest demonstration near his residence two days back, prompting the police to beef up the security.
Justifying the reality show by stating that there was nothing objectionable against Tamil culture, Kamal, while intrer-acting with the media, had alleged that the Tamil Nadu government was steeped in corruption.
He also said there was a system failure in the state and that there was corruption in every department, triggering angry reactions from State Ministers and AIADMK Amma members.
However, the Opposition parties in the state like the DMK, Congress and the two Left parties--CPI and CPI(M)--came to his defence and said the corruption charges levelled by Kamal were true and it only reflected the people's voice.
They also had a dig at Ministers for threatening him and said the government, in turn, should take steps to correct the flaws.
AIADMK Amma leader spokesperson and 'sidelined' Party Deputy General Secretary TTV Dinakaran loyalist Nanjil Sampath too took objections to Ministers addressing the actor in singular and threatening him with actions under the Prevention of Atrocities act.
'If the Tamil film gets global recognition means, it is because of Kamal', he said, adding, the actor should pinpoint where the corruption took place.
Rebel faction leader and former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam of AIADMK PTA leader too spoke in support of Kamal and said every one has the right to express their views in a democracy.
'Instead of threatening him, the Ministers should counter his charge with proofs', he added.
