New Delhi, Jul 15 (UNI) President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday appointed Kalraj Mishra as new Governor of Himachal Pradesh replacing Mr Acharya Devvrat.
Mr Devvrat was moved to Gujarat as Governor.
The appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices, a communiqué from the Rashtrapati Bhavan said here.
Mr Mishra was the Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the previous Narendra Modi government.
The 78-year-old Mishra was three-time member of Rajya Sabha in 1978, 2001 and 2006. He joined politics and held many party positions at state and national level. He was a Cabinet Minister in Government of Uttar Pradesh holding the portfolios of Public Works, Medical Education and Tourism during March 1997 – August 2000 period.
Mr Mishra started a campaign where in all state highways would be made crater free. He played an important role in the formation of Uttarakhand.
First time ever, Mr Mishra contested assembly election in 2012 as a BJP candidate from Lucknow East assembly constituency and won the seat for BJP. He initiated many developmental projects. In 2014 Mishra became MP from Deoria constituency & later appointed as Cabinet Minister in the Modi government.
The 60-year-old Devvrat was made the Governor of Himachal Pradesh in 2015.
In Gujarat, he would replace incumbent OP Kohli, who retires on Monday.
Mr Devvrat is an RSS pracharak and served previously as the principal of a Gurukul in Kurukshetra, Haryana.
