Kalaburgi DC seeks rs 31.39 Crore to take up rehabilitation works

Kalaburgi, Aug 22 (UNI) District Deputy Commissioner R Venketesh Kumar has sought financial assistance of Rs 31.39 crore to take up rehabilitation works in flood ravaged Afzalpur, Kalaburagi, Jewargi and Chitapur Taluks.
According to preliminary reports the loss caused due to excess release of water from river Bhima including utensils and cloths was to the tune of Rs 8.8 lakh, houses located close to the river were inundated . Rs 20,000 has been spent on fishing out the body of a farmer who was washed away in the floods by using a boat . Rs 93, 750 was spent on opening rehabilitation Centres at two villages in Afzalpur and Kalaburagi Taluk. Rs 9.28 lakh is needed to repair the fields which witness soil erosion and land slips. Rs 16.32 crore is required to give compensation to the farmers whose crops were damaged.
The report said that Rs 10 crore is required to create infrastructure under the public works , rural development , small and medium irrigation and energy department as works taken up by these departments were damaged in the floods . Hence , the government has been appealed to release the funds at the earliest .
