Kaabil: a slick revenge drama with stellar acts by Hrithik, Ronit

New Delhi, Jan 26 (UNI) It is a film that sees the coming together of two master craftsmen - Rakesh Roshan, who is known for his emotionally charged films like 'Khoon Bhari Maang', 'Koyla', 'Karan Arjun' and the 'Krrish' series, and Sanjay Gupta, famous for his slick and stylish thrillers like 'Kaante', 'Shootout at Lokhandwala' and 'Shootout at Wadala'.
Naturally, 'Kaabil ' carries with it a huge burden of expectations.
After watching the film, one can say that the film measures in large part to the expectations from it.
Stellar acts by Hrithik Roshan and Ronit Roy, an excellent chemistry between the fresh pair of Hrithik and Yami Gautam, a fast paced screenplay and slick treatment by director Sanjay Gupta makes Kaabil a must watch revenge drama.
Rohan Bhatnager (Hrithik Roshan) is a visually impaired voice over artist who meets Supriya (Yami Gautam), a visually impaired musician through a matchmaker.
The two hit it off and soon fall in love.
Just when they had just enjoying their marital bliss, Supriya gets raped by Amit Shelar (Rohit Roy), MLA Madhavrao Shelar’s (Ronit Roy) younger brother and his friend.
After police turns a blind eye to this case despite filing an FIR, Rohan takes it upon himself to get justice for the heinous crime committed against his wife.
Rest of the film deals with his efforts to take revenge against the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to justice.
The concept of a blind protagonist taking on the establishment and seeking revenge against perpetrators of the crime against his wife is an impressive one.
The brilliance of the script, together with the excellent execution by Hrithik, however, lends a measure of credibility to the revenge act by the visually impaired Rohan.
Though the film starts on a slow pace with the first few scenes featuring the romance between Rohan and Supriya, it gathers pace soon after the dramatic twist in their lives.
The sequence of events showing the visually impaired Rohan going about the revenge against the perpetrators of the crime makes for a gripping view.
This, coupled with Hrithik 's brilliance in action scenes, adds to the thrill of this revenge drama.
The screenplay and direction by Sanjay Gupta keeps the viewer constantly hooked on to the proceedings, curious to know the next move by Rohan.
Some of the dialogues in the film are clapworthy.
Hrithik excels as the visually impaired Rohan looking to take revenge against the perpetrators of crime committed against his wife.
As the visually impaired person, who makes up for his handicap by 'watching ' and sensing every move of his adversaries through the power of his mind, Hrithik is brilliant.
He seems to have made a habit at excelling in such challenging roles.
He also displays great intensity in the emotional scenes and is mind blowing in the action sequences.
His is an overwhelming presence in the film.
His chemistry with Yami Gautam is excellent.
Despite having a brief screen presence in the film, Yami comes across as impressive.
She looks pretty in the film and her pairing with Hrithik is cute and endearing.
After his noteworthy performances in 'Udaan' and 'Boss', Ronit Roy comes up with another stellar act as the 'deadly' villian Madhavrao Shelar.
He comes across as 'menacing' Rohit Roy also does a decent job as Amit Shelar.
The rest of the cast, including Girish Kulkarni who plays inspector Nalavade, and Narendra Jha as the officer on case have done a good job.
Music of the film is not much to talk about except for his song 'Saara zamaana'.
In short, 'Kaabil ' is another slick revenge drama from Sanjay Gupta with stellar acts by Hrithik Roshan and Ronit Roy.
Rating: 4/5: one for the innovative concept, one for the gripping storyline, one for Sanjay Gupta 's direction and one for performances by Hrithik Roshan and Ronit Roy ).
