K'taka Fisheries Minister seeks action against bull trawling

Mangaluru, Oct 6 (UNI) Minister for Fisheries and Port Kota Srinivasa Poojary on Sunday warned the fishermen indulging 'bull trawl fishing' and using lights on mechanised boats.
Speaking to media here, the minister said that the ban on fishing through bull trawling and use of lights is already existing in the state and it will be continued for a while. But some fishermen are engaging in this method which affecting traditional fishing . The traditional fishermen ‘s association has already submitted a memorandum to government to take necessary actions against this practice. The government is committed to take action against such persons, he added.
He also said that the government committed to provide compensation of Rs five lakh for those who lost their houses completely during the floods and assured all the help for the people of Dakshina Kannada district.
