Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party retains power but fails to secure majority in Canada

Ottawa, Oct 22 (UNI) Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party has retained power but failed to secure a majority in Canadian parliamentary polls.
His party is projected to win 157 seats, 13 short of a majority, while opposition Conservatives are projected to take 121, up from the 95 they held before.
Jagmeet Singh led left-leaning New Democratic Party (NDP) is likely to play the kingmaker even though the party’s tally has declined. The NDP is projected to take 24 seats in the 338-seat parliament.
Quebec's separatist party, the Bloc Québécois is expected to take 32 seats, up from 10 seats in 2015.

Mr Trudeau told his supporters in Montreal that voters have rejected division and negativity and voted for a progressive agenda and strong action on climate change.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Mr Trudeau for his electoral victory in the federal elections.

"Congratulations Justin Trudeau. India and Canada are connected by shared values and a strong commitment to democracy as well as plurality," Prime Minister tweeted.
He also said that India will be "looking forward to working together to further strengthen bilateral relations".

Mr Justin Trudeau has won a second term as Canada’s prime minister after the country’s federal election.

Historic Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) also congratulated Mr Trudeau for the consecutive second win in the elections, the results of which were announced on Tuesday.

Mr Trudeau is a seen as a `friend of the Sikhs’ and has given respect to vibrant minority community on Canadian soil.

KCGC honorary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina said the whole community was happy over the results and he hoped that under Trudeau and his Cabinet, Canada would see another chapter of development and progress. "It was a hard fight but Trudeau emerged as a winner. The Sikh community is happy over the outcome," he said in a statement here.
