Jordan an oasis of stability in region: Prez

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI ) Describing Jordan as an oasis of stability in the region, President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday said India admired the vision and leadership of Jordanian King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein to bring peace and prosperity in the neighbourhood of his country.
Speaking at a banquet hosted in honour of King of Jordan Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, the President said, 'Jordan has played a key role in West Asia. Your country has been an oasis of stability in the region. We admire your vision and leadership to bring peace and prosperity in your neighbourhood.
'We deeply appreciate you providing hope and shelter to a large number of refugees. As a close friend and partner, I am happy that we are giving you a helping hand in rendering humanitarian assistance to them. Your views on religious moderation and inter-faith dialogue come as a beacon of hope for us and for many. '
The President said Indian people fully shared the vision of the King of Jordan and desire to build a future of 'peace and prosperity for our children'.
'Indeed, as you said in your address this morning - Faith should only draw humanity together, bring different civilisations to understand and embrace each other,' he added.
The President said India deeply appreciates the lead he has taken on tackling radicalisation through the Aqaba process.
'Terrorism is challenging us on a daily basis. Therefore, we need to work together to defeat it,' he said.
The President said that as a close friend and partner, India is happy to give Jordan a helping hand in rendering humanitarian assistance to the refugees.
The President conveyed India’s deepest appreciation to Jordan for the assistance extended to Indian citizens in the region.
The President said that Jordan and India enjoy warm and friendly ties.
'India attaches great importance to its relations with Jordan,' he said.
He was happy to note that phosphate-related joint ventures of the two countries are doing well. He said a large number of Indian textile companies have invested in Jordan and they have received good support from the Government of Jordan.
The President emphasised that there is much scope to enhance trade and investment between India and Jordan, particularly in the fields of IT, infrastructure, pharma and tourism.
