Johnson to start phasing Huawei out of 5G network by year-end: Reports

London, Jul 5 (UNI) British Prime Minister Boris Johnson would start phasing out Huawei from the country's 5G tele-communications network by the end of 2020, The Telegraph newspaper reported.
The newspaper said the Prime Minister has made this decision, due to the advice provided by the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).
A report in The Telegraph on Saturday stated that Johnson would be presented by the GCHQ's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), which said the US sanctions imposed on Huawei would force the company to use technology, which was not dependable, raising risks for the UK.
If Johnson does make such a decision, it would be a significant u-turn on his part, as he had previously stated that Huawei would be allowed to operate on non-sensitive parts of the UK's 5G network.
In late June, the Chinese company was given approval to begin work on an opto-electronic research and development center in Cambridge.
The recent sanctions by the US on Huawei have attempted to cut off the company getting access to semi-conductors manufactured with US equipment.
