JNU wards can register at old fees for winter semester: HC

JNU wards can register at old fees for winter semester: HC

New Delhi, Jan 24 (UNI) Justice Rajiv Shakdher of Delhi High Court on Friday allowed Jawaharlal Nehru University students to register for the ongoing Winter Semester as per the old hostel manual.

Counsel for the petitioner submitted that the new Manual has resulted in an increased hostel fee which has affected the rights of those in reserved categories vis-a-vis allocation of rooms and reduced the representation of the JNU Student Union in the Inter Hostel Administration.

It is further submitted that the entire decision-making process was mala fide, arbitrary and illegal. The hike had adversely affected the student community and decision making process was undertaken without any pupil representation. Counsel also took objection to the introduction of Below Poverty Line/Economic Weaker Section category in the Hostel Manual, terming it irrational and arbitrary.
