Jnanpeeth awardee and noted Kannada writer ‘Kuvempu’ remembered on his 114th birth anniversary

Bengaluru, Dec 29 (UNI) People of Karnataka and connoisseurs of literature celebrated the 114th birth anniversary of revered Kannada poet, Jnanapeeth Awardee Kupali Venkatappa Puttappa, popularly known by his pen name 'Kuvempu' on Saturday.
The Jnanpeeth award winner's works including epic Ramayana Darshana which brought him the Jnanpith award is one of the most celebrated proponents of Kannada language always stood for social cause that reflected in his memorable works of poetry, prose, biographies and works of drama.
Kuvempu was born in an affluent family of ‘landlords’ in Kupali in this picturesque village in Thirthahalli taluk on the banks of Tunga river in Shivamogga district on this day in 1904 and he had written many master pieces including ‘Ramayana Darshana’ for which he received Jnanpeeth Award in 1968.
