JKPCC Chief advocates for restoration of Darbar move to Jammu

Srinagar, Dec 12 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief Tariq Karra on Thursday strongly advocated for the immediate restoration of the biannual Darbar Move, the practice of shifting the seat of the government between Srinagar and Jammu.
“As far as the Darbar Move is concerned, the alliance partner has, from the very beginning, supported the biannual shifting of the government seat to Jammu, as was the practice earlier,” Karra said while addressing the media in Srinagar.
He emphasized that Jammu has suffered significantly due to the discontinuation of the Darbar Move.
“Businesses in Jammu have been adversely affected. The small and large business communities alike are demanding the restoration of the Darbar Move. Even the Jammu Chamber of Commerce has expressed dissatisfaction over the suspension of this practice,” Karra said.
He added that the absence of the Darbar Move has negatively impacted Jammu's tourism sector.
“The Darbar Move is not merely an administrative exercise,” Karra explained. “It is a cultural and regional exchange that fosters traditional bonds of brotherhood among all communities.”
Reiterating his party's stance, he said, the Congress has consistently supported the restoration of the Darbar Move and should be immediately restored.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that Darbar's move will soon be restored as the uniqueness of Jammu cannot be diluted.
The JKPCC Chief in reply to a question advocated for the change in the dual administrative system and called it an Irony.
“We have been often saying that the dual control system should be abolished and there should be a division of work whatever it is”, Karra said adding “Unfortunately this arrangement is still pending and we impress upon the concerned this gap should be fulfilled immediately so that the people of Jammu and Kashmir do not suffer any more”.
In reply to a question, Karra expressed concern about delay in business rules in the administration. He said, “It should be there today or tomorrow..I don’t know why it is taking so much time. Delaying it will be at the cost of the people of Jammu and Kashmir”.
