JKKT demands farm loan waiver, continuation of market intervention scheme

Srinagar, May 16 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Kissan Tehreek (JKKT) on Saturday demanded waiver of farm loans and continuation of market intervention to help farmers, including horticulture growers in the Union Territory.
Observing “Demands Day” on Saturday , the JKKT urged the government to fulfill the demands of farmers including horticulture growers for implementation of Swaminathan Report besides complete waiver off farm loans, grant loan on minimum interest rate of 4 per cent.
A statement issued by the JKKT said after the dilution of Article 370 in August 2019, and the subsequent lockdown, the apple growers remained most sufferers because of then prevailing situation and the growers were compelled to store their harvest in cold storage in the hope of receiving better rates this spring.
