JK tyres to set up R & D Centre in Polimer technologies : Singhania

Mysuru, Aug 22 (UNI) J K Tyres, which has major presence in this
Tier-II city with its long standing Vikrant Tyres plant here, will
invest Rs 100 crore to set up a R and D centre in polimer
technologies, Raghupathi Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director
of the group today said.
Speaking at the rolling out of the 10th million radial truck tyre
from the plant, he said the centre was under construction at the
plant premises and will be launched soon.
''We are undisputed leaders in making radial tyres in the country
and our investments have paid dividends. Vikrant Tyres is a
testimony to this,'' the veteran industry leader said.
The company had invested Rs 1200 crore to turn the once
state-owned, loss making, Mysore plant to world standards.
It had also completed the second phase of construction of its
second pure radial plant at Chennai, after Mysuru, with a total
investment of Rs 2600 crore. The expansion was completed in the last
quarter to produce truck and car radial tyres.
The new plant in Chennai would roll out 12 lakh Truck radials and
45 lakh car radial tyres. The plant had a blue print to scale up the
production to 2 million truck radials and 10 million car tyres in
near future.
''We are also making major investment in in Mexico plant to step
up the capacity,'' he said on the company's overseas investments.
Dr Singhania said the Vikrant plant's tuck tyre capacity, at
present at 3.5 million will be stepped up to five million truck/bus
tyres in the near future.
''We set up the first tyre manufacturing unit in Jaipur in 1977
and have grown well. We have spent huge sums and made profit setting
up of greenfield plants, expansion of existing plants and have come
a long way. Vikrant tyre plant in Mysuru is a testimony to our
progress,'' the business leader said.
He said the recent Rs 2200 crore Cavendish Tyres takeover was the
latest for the company's onward journey. The company now
manufacture complete range of tyres from a 3 kilo scooter tyre to
the 3.7 tonnes ultra large OTR tyre, he added.
