New Delhi, Aug 5 (UNI) Despite a strong buzz around it and the presence of Bollywood 'Baadshah' Shahrukh Khan, Imtiaz Ali's 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' has got an average response at the box office, earning just Rs 16.5 crore on its opening day across India, trade sources said today. Trade sources said that contrary to sky high expectations from the film, which marked the combination of the magic of Imtiaz Ali and the popular pairing of Shahrukh and Anushka Sharma, the film could garner just Rs 16.5 crore at the box office on its opening day yesterday. Released on over 3,200 cinema screens across India, 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' had a tremendous buzz surrounding it in the run up to its release. The film has , however, evoked mixed reviews from critics . While film critic Komal Nahata as termed the film as disappointing, especially in its second half, trade analysts has termed the film as 'unimpressive' with a boring screenplay. Trade sources said that the collections of the film were disappointing considering that it has been one of the most anticipated films of the year. Also, the fact that it was a Shahrukh Khan film and also that it was solo release this week had raised expectations of a huge opening by the film. After the lukewarm response to Salman's 'Tubelight' and Ranbir Kapoor's 'Jagga Jasoos ', industry has pinned hopes on Shahrukh's 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' to bring bring much-needed respite at the ticket window. Trade experts expressed hope that the film will pick up over the weekend and manages to cash in on the Raksha Bandhan holiday on Monday. Next week the film will face competition from Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Presented by Red Chillies Entertainment, 'Jab Harry Met Sejal ', directed by Imtiaz Ali is the story of how a search for Sejal’s engagement ring with help from Harry which leads to a kindling of love between the two. The Imtiaz Ali directorial is bringing back Shahrukh in his romantic hero avatar after the intense 'Raees'.
