Jharkhand, India, September 9, 2021- Whether it is Tata’s OSF project, or the initiative nos by ECL and Adani Godda, private players are endeavouring to bring new opportunities for the people of Jharkhand.
During a workshop organised by the state government of Jharkhand and Niti Aayog, Chief Minister Hemant Soren highlighted the need for the state to look beyond mines. He was quoted saying that more than big industrial units like power and steel plants, people in Jharkhand require assistance in sectors like agriculture, tourism and the likes for overall development of the state.
It has, in fact, been rightly said because even though Jharkhand’s economy largely depends on its mineral reserves. Contemplating the richness of the resources, numerous private players are managing their projects that are bolstering the state’s economy and promoting employment.
Adani Godda is developing a Power Plant that is likely to be inaugurated by the first quarter of the year 2022. It will boost the employment rate and help to bolster the state’s economy. It will not only generate tremendous job opportunities but will solve the electricity related challenges.
While 1660 MW of electricity is estimated to be produced from the Adani’s power plant in Godda, the state will get 400 MW of electricity.
Given such initiatives from companies like Adani in Godda, one of the country's most backward regions, can potentially become an industrial centre.
Apart from Adani, Godda has also been receiving tremendous help from Eastern Coalfields Limited. The company is setting up a skill training centre with an ultimate goal to churn out employment opportunities for the youth.
In addition to this, in its bid to boost fishery as an alternate source of economy, Tata has launched Open Source Fisheries (OSF) that focuses on training fishing communities to breed and rear fish. The integrated livelihood model that the company has introduced, has been adopted by more than 1000 farmers not only in Jharkhand, but in Andhra Pradesh as well.
However, for a state that has depended on coal and other mineral reserves for years, transitioning to other economic sources may prove challenging. Thus, for now, the traditional steel and power plant projects are serving as a major source of employment for the people.
