Bengaluru, Mar 27 (UNI) JDS MLA SR Srinivas on Monday submitted his resignation as MLA to Karnataka Speaker Vishveshwar Hegde Kageri and is set to join the Congress in coming days.
"I met the Speaker today and submitted my resignation. After he accepts the resignation, I will hold talks with Congress leaders about formally joining the Congress. I plan to join Congress on March 31," he told reporters here.
Srinivas was expelled from JDS for alleged cross-voting in the June 2022 Rajya Sabha polls, which apparently resulted in the defeat of its candidate D Kupendra Reddy.
Last year, the JDS had moved a petition to disqualify him and another party MLA K Srinivas Gowda from Kolar under the anti-defection law.
Srinivas said he was forced to take such a step after JDS leadership expelled him on the basis of "false allegations."
"Deve Gowda treated me like a son and KUmraswamy treated me like his younger brother, but what made him expel me from the party," he said.
Moreover, Srinivas alleged: "In October, 2021 Kumaraswamy announced a JDS candidate from my seat even as I was still in the party, from that day the distance between us widened.
"Kumaraswamy also held me responsible for Deve Gowda’s defeat in 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Tumakuru. I had never done such anti-party activity and had honestly served the party," he said.
