Jazz musicians should make best efforts to pass on emotions to audience: Erik Truffaz

By Anil Mishra

Panaji, Dec 20 (UNI) Erik Truffaz, French jazz trumpeter, believes that the Jazz musicians should play whatever they feel and make their best efforts to "pass on the emotions to the audience".

As part of the Bonjour India celebrations across the country, Erik Truffaz was part of Goa International Jazz Festival 2017, held on December 10 at Stone Water Eco Resort, Bogmalo, in South Goa.

In the festival Erik collaborated with contemporary urban musicians -- electronic composer Riatsu, along with percussionist Anand Bhagat and multi-instrumentalist Neil Gomes – for a multi-city tour through India.

In an interview to UNI, Erick said touring in India was always an amazing experience and a great pleasure for him.

He said he was very grateful to the French Embassy due to which he had met great Indian young musicians and composed new music.

When asked how important were the events like Bonjour India celebrations, the musician said, 'It's important to enable artistic collaborations and develop dialogue and interactions between France and India.'

Erik was of the opinion that Jazz musicians should play whatever they felt and make their best efforts to pass on the emotions to the audience.

The musician who has gained prominence in the international jazz community for fusing the post bebop and early fusion styles of trumpet legend Miles Davis with more contemporary forms of music such as electronica, acid rock, and hip-hop, said there were various influences on his music.

'I have various influences -- rock, electronica, world music and classical music, from Chaurasia to Led Zeppelin and Daft Punk, my influences are very large,' he said.
