Jayakwadi dam releases excess water after heavy rains

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Oct 6 (UNI) The Irrigation Department authority on Sunday started to release the excess water from Jayakwadi, one of the biggest dams in the state also known as lifeline of Marathwada region, due to heavy rains in it's catchment areas and inflow from upstream dams.
This is the fourth time to release excess water into downstream of river due to the dam, which was already fill up 100 per cent of it's water-storage capacity in August, sources said.
After the opening of it's gates on August 15, September 15, September 26 and on Sunday respectively, ten shutters out of 27 discharged today with 5240 cusses per second, they said.

They further said that water of 1589 cusses per second was continuously releasing from hydro unit in the river basin since last months.
All the Jalna, Beed, Parbhani and Nanded district administrations have issued alerts to the residents of the villages nearby the river not to venture around the bay of river. Due to heavy discharge, the flood water likely to enter several villages in these districts.
