Japan's AEPPL to invest Rs 4930 cr in Hanslapur battery project

Gandhinagar, Oct 14 (UNI) Automotive Electronics Power Private Limited of Japan, a joint venture of Maruti Suzuki Corporation, Toshiba and Denso on Monday signed an agreement with the state government for capacity expansion of it's Lithium Ion battery in Hansalpur-Becharaji region with an investment of Rs. 4930 crore.
The MoU was signed by Ichizo Aoyama, the MD of AEPPL and Principal Secretary to Industries M. K. Das in the presence of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani here.
In the first phase, the construction of lithium battery packs and module manufacturing facilities at cost of Rs.1250 crores will be built by the end of 2020. It will generate direct and indirect employment for around 1 thousand local peoples.
The foundation of the project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in year 2017. A
AEPPL will invest Rs. 3715 crores in second phase and will produce 30 million cells per year in Gujarat by
2025.
