Jammu Violence: Army calls in to assist civil administration, holds flag march

Jammu, Feb 15 (UNI) On the requisitioned by civil authorities of Jammu to bring the situation under control, Army was called in to assist civil administration and flag march was held in sensitive parts of violence erupted during day-long shutdown on Friday called by the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries to condemn killing of 44 CRPF personnel in Pulwama terror attack.
“On the requisitioned by civil authorities, the Army reacted promptly and in a swift action, nine Internal Security Columns of Army from Tiger Division along with air support from White Knight Corps were deployed in Gujjar Nagar, Janipur, Shahidi Chowk, Talab Khatika and other areas,” defence spokesman here said.
He said that Flag marches were also conducted by the IS columns while helicopters and UAVs of Army were also put into operation to monitor the situation.
The proactive approach jointly taken by J&K Police, Civil administration (Divisional Commissioner and District Collector’s office) and Army has ensured that the situation remains in control and peaceful, he added.
The spokesman said that the ‘Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI)’ called for a complete shutdown of Jammu City in protest of deaths of CRPF men who laid down their lives for the nation.
The “bandh” was marked by large scale processions by various political parties. Violence broke out in major parts of the city which included stone pelting between different factions and torching of vehicles.
