Jairam Ramesh questions timing of Women’s Reservation Law rollout, calls it 'absolutely bizarre' ‎

New Delhi, Apr 16 (UNI) Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Thursday raised sharp questions over the timing of the implementation of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, terming the development “absolutely bizarre” and accusing the government of procedural inconsistency. ‎
In a statement citing a gazette notification, Ramesh said that the landmark legislation on women’s reservation, which was passed by Parliament in September 2023, has officially come into force even as fresh amendments to the same law are currently under discussion in Parliament and are scheduled to be voted on Friday. ‎
“This is absolutely bizarre. The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam passed in September 2023 has come into force today, while amendments to it are being debated and will be voted upon tomorrow. Completely puzzled,” Ramesh said, expressing confusion over what he suggested was an unusual legislative sequence. ‎
