Jagdish Tytler refuses to undergo polygraph test in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Congress leader Jagdish Tytler today refused to undergo polygraph test in a 1984 anti- Sikh riots case, in which he was earlier given a clean chit by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on three occasions. It is submitted before the court on behalf of Arms Dealer Abhishek Verma that his client is not well and requested to grant time for his personal appearance to explain the conditions for undergoing the polygraph test. Three persons were killed in a riots at Gurudwara Pulbangash in North Delhi on November 1, 1984 a day after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. CBI has given clean chit to Tytler, who has denied any role in the riots, but the court has directed to further investigate the matter as the victims had filed a protest petition, challenging the closure reports filed by CBI. The court has directed to CBI to further investigate the matter and said it would monitor the probe every two months to ensure that no aspect is left un-investigated. As per order of the court, CBI has re-investigated the case of killing of Badal Singh, Thakur Singh and Gurcharan Singh near the Gurudwara. CBI has filed an application for seeking permission to conduct polygraph test on Mr Tytler and Abhishek in pursuance to the order of court on December 4, 2015, in which it was mentioned that the lie-detection test may be conducted, if required. An affidavit has been filed on behalf of Tytler before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Shivali Sharma by submitting that he does not wish to undergo the test as sought by the CBI. The court today after hearing has granted time to Abhishek's counsel and listed the matter for June 2 for further proceedings. UNI XC RJ ADG 2151
