Kolhapur, Apr 4 (UNI) Renowned filmmaker Jabbar Patel has been selected for this year's 'Principal RK Kanbarkar Award' instituted by Shivaji University, Kolhapur.



The award, named in memory of the late Principal Kanbarkar, carries a cash prize of Rs 1,50,000, a citation, a memento and a certificate, vice-chancellor Devanand Shinde said.



The award is given for his contribution in Hindi and Marathi film industries.



The award is given in memory of former vice-chancellor principal R K Kanbarkar for which his family donated Rs 25 lakh as a fix deposit to the university.

Earlier, this prestigious national award was given to senior scientist Bharat Ratna C N R Rao and Rayat Shiksha Sanstha of Satara.



The award distribution function will be held on April 13 at Shivaji University campus, Mr Shinde said in a release.
