J&K minister stands for Gujjars “staying” on state land, terms them nationalists

Jammu, Mar 9 (UNI) A day after controversy triggered due to revelations made by an advocate claiming that the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba mufti has ordered that Gujjars shall not be asked to vacate the state land, a senior minister on Friday stood by the fraternity terming them as nationalists.
“Why Gujjars have to vacate the land where they are staying?”, said Mr Abdul Gani Kohli, Minister for Sheep and Animal Husbandry while speaking to reporters at the sidelines of a function in Katra town of Reasi district.
“Recently I met the Union Home Minister in New Delhi and he also called Gujjars as nationalists and they (Gujjars) have no comparison,” said the Minister.
“For your kind information, without Gujjars one cannot imagine the situation in Jammu and Kashmir,” Mr Kohli, who is BJP MLA from Kalakote Constituency, told reporters adding that Gujjars and Bakerwals are the true Indians.
“There might be some elements who were surrounded by Gujjars and they conspire the issue otherwise, Gujjar community is a nationalist,” he asserted.
Advocate Ankur Sharma on Thursday presented minutes of meeting chaired by Ms Mufti on Feb 14 claiming that she has ordered that no Gujjar-Bakerwal will be vacated from the state land they are “occupying”.
Health Minister Bali Bhagat on Thursday after meeting Ms Mufti cleared that the minutes of the meeting were allegedly forged as Tribal Affairs Welfare Policy is being framed and final shape will be given only after Cabinet Sub Committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister will present his report in the Cabinet.

On ‘WE’ Day, MP CM calls for team efforts

06 Jun 2020 | 3:30 AM

Bhopal, June 5 (UNI) Wishing citizens on the occasion of World Environment Day, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasised on endeavours to fulfil “our collective obligation” vis-à-vis conserving natural heritage and biodiversity.
“Every individual should plant at least one sapling annually. If more seedlings are planted, it will indeed be a favour to humanity and nature. Biodiversity is the principal theme this year and our state happens to be extremely rich in that aspect. In Madhya Pradesh flows the lifeline ‘Mother Narmada’ and we have the Satpura, Vindhya and Maikal ranges. Rivers such as the Kshipra, Chambal, Betwa and Tapti also enrich our resources. At this juncture, humanity is encountering a challenging phase but my dispensation is determined to safeguard the habitat,” the veteran leader averred in a message.

MP CM launches greening drive

06 Jun 2020 | 2:30 AM

Bhopal, June 5 (UNI) Emphasising that this planet is home not only to humans but also for fauna and feathered creatures, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed concern Friday over mankind’s blind exploitation of nature in the unbridled race for so-called progress.
“Forests have been decimated, toxic emissions from factories polluted the environment, chemical fertilisers and pesticides contaminated water plus food. This simply cannot be described as development; it is in fact destruction! Striking a fine balance between growth and the habitat is imperative. As is universally known but often conveniently disregarded, trees purify the environs, provide us with food, raise groundwater level and enhance storage,” the veteran leader was officially quoted as saying while symbolically inaugurating – via videoconferencing – a major plantation initiative organised by the Harda-based Subhash Manch on the occasion of World Environment Day.
