J&K bank looted by gunmen in Shopian, 2nd incident in 24 hrs

Srinagar, Oct 13 (UNI) Unidentified gunmen on Friday looted a branch of Jammu and Kashmir Bank (JKB) in Shopian district, official sources said.


This is the second incident in less than 24 hours in Shopian where around Rs 5 lakh was robbed from a JKB at Marhama of Bijbehara in Anantnag on Thursday.


They said a group of gunmen entered a JKB branch at Ratnipora in Shopian Friday morning. The gunmen looted cash from the bank after threatening employees and other customers at gun point. “Around Rs 2 lakh were robbed from the vault of the bank,” they said, adding that security forces were rushed to the area and a massive hunt has been launched.


On Thursday, a police spokesperson said during preliminary investigation, it came to fore that two militants identified as Rasik Nabi Bhat allies Owais and Salia Mohammad Akhoon allies Rehaan of banned outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen were involved in the robbery.

New excise policy in UP to hit liquor syndicates

Lucknow, Jan 23 (UNI) In an attempt to break the monopoly of liquor mafia, the Yogi Adityanath Government in Uttar Pradesh will introduce on-line tendering system allowing people to bid for liquor outlets and has decided to link the whole process with Aadhaar and PAN card.
