New Delhi, Oct 24 (UNI) Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai on Sunday took part in the function organized at Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh on the 60th Raising Day of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and took the salute of the Parade.
Nityanand Rai, in his address, said that there is no parallel of courage and devotion of ITBP jawans who serves the country in the harsh conditions of the Himalayas. The country is proud of ITBP valor.
He said that the country is proud that 23 ITBP personnel who were awarded Police Medals of Bravery, out of which 20 jawans have been honoured for their gallantry in 'Operation Snow Leopard'.
He said that the security forces were given freedom to make decisions according to the circumstances, which boosted their morale. ITBP is known for its versatility and devotion to duty in a multidisciplinary field. Be it border guarding or climbing to the highest peaks of the Himalayan range, anti-Naxal operations or internal security duties, ITBP has left an indelible mark of service to the nation in every field. 6 naxalites were gunned down in encounters, 71 apprehended and 187 surrendered in various operations since 2018. A huge amount of arms and ammunition were recovered during this period.
In order to make ITBP more efficient, construction of infrastructure of 47 border posts and 12 staging camps was approved last year and for this, discussions are in its final stages for approval of additional vehicles of ITBP for manpower.
During the Corona epidemic, ITBP went ahead with courage and great enthusiasm and served the countrymen. ITBP opened the country's first 1,000-bed quarantine centre at Chhawla camp in Delhi, where Indians returned from abroad as well as citizens of 8 friendly countries were also quarantined. In August, when Indian nationals from Afghanistan and nationals of Afghanistan and Nepal were brought to India with them, ITBP once again came forward and did a commendable job of keeping these total 135 people in quarantine and taking care of their facilities, said Rai.
