Israeli – Hamas officials set to meet in Egypt, terror group issues contentious demands which could derail discussions

Cairo, Oct 6 (UNI) As Israeli and Hamas officials prepare to meet in Cairo to negotiate a halt to hostilities in the Gaza Strip, both sides are expected to make concessions under the 20-point initiative proposed by US President Donald Trump — a plan that both parties have now accepted in principle.
While the deal proposes certain compromises, certain demands by the terror group could threaten to derail the negotiations, as the Islamic hardline terror group has called for the release of various senior commanders and officers who were incarcerated by Jerusalem for masterminding the murder of many Israeli citizens and soldiers.
The Jewish state – before the talks even commenced – had categorically rejected demands for freeing them. Another contentious demand put forth by Hamas calls for the release of its fighters from its elite Nukhba force, a demand Israel has staunchly refused, as members of this unit carried out the Oct 7, 2023, massacre, which led to the war.
