Iraq held mighty Mexico 1-1, England topped Group F after 4-0 on Chile

Kolkata, Oct 8 (UNI) Iraq for the first time grabbed a point after they held former champs Mexico 1-1 and England topped the Group F with 4-0 victory over Chile in their opening matches in the FIFA World Cup under -17 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) here tonight. Asian champions Iraq drew the first blood through the spirited striker Mohammed Dawood in the 16th minute and virtually held the game in their favour in the first half. After water break two times winners Mexico regrouped and brought the score in parity though Roberto De La Rosa five minutes into second half. Both the rivals shared one point each. This was first point for Iraq at this stage of competition, Earlier in their first appearance in 2015 they lost all group matches. Earlier, in the day of Group F match England beat Chile 4-0 on this pitch with two goals from striker Jadon Sancho and topped the group with three points, as many as Mexico, but goal difference took English side on top. England will take on Mexico in the second match and Iraq will play against Chile on Wednesday. Mohamed Dawood was virtually menace for the Mexican boys in the first half as he was about to score two more goals but singled handed efforts made him failure. Earlier striker Jadon Sancho struck twice in England facile 4-0 win against 10-man Chile as the European side dominated theshow right from the go and grabbed full three points in their first play. Coach Steve Cooper's boys struck early inside first five minutes with Callum Hudson Odoi neatly placed far side of the post with pass from Jadon Sancho, who doubled for England in the 50th minute of play. Manchester City's Odoi's goal was from a counter attack rushing towards the goal dodging past four Chile defenders after Jadon advanced a pass. Borusia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho, who stole the limelight at the refurbished Salt Lake stadium for his ball control and passing gave England second goal within five minutes into the play of the second half and his second and England 's third goal came ten minutes later. Jadon's 15th goal from 17 international appearance came with a silky touch from George McEachran's assist. The fourth goal for England came eight minutes from the end with a free kick from substitute Angel Gomes, who came in place of Callum Hudson-Odoi. The free kick awarded to England just outside the box when Chile goalkeeper Julio Borquez coming out of charge tripped Angel Gomes and Japanese referee Ryuji Sato red carded the South American custodian. Chile's substitute midfielder Branco Provoste had to donned goalkeeper shirt under the bar. But he could not save the curling free kick from Angel Gomes. Chile were lucky not to concede more goal, at least on one occasion when side post prevented Morgan Gibbs's shot at the fag end. England scripted history as they are first side to win a match in the refurbished stadium with a capacity of 66,600. Officially announced that some 55,800 fans witnessed the second match .
