Iran war economic fallout making millions across vulnerable nations struggle to meet basic food needs: UNWFP

Rome, Jun 5 (UNI) The Iran war has begun making millions struggle to meet basic food needs and, in some cases, pushing them into acute hunger as the economic fallout of the war has hit people across vulnerable countries very hard, according to the UN World Food Programme (WFP).
In March, the agency cautioned that as many as 45 million people in several countries could face acute food insecurity if the ongoing conflict in West Asia continues to drive up global oil prices.
The assessment begun unfolding on Thursday, as the agency found that an additional 2.5 million people in Somalia, 2.3 million in Afghanistan and 1.3 million in Sri Lanka are "struggling to meet basic food needs and, in some cases, being pushed into acute hunger due to the crisis."
