IPL cricket betting gang busted, 25 lakh seized

Anantapur May 3 (UNI) Seventeen persons including two bookies were arrested with Rs 25 lakh cash, 38 mobile phones and two LED television.
Superintendent of police GVG Ashok Kumar said that on a tip off, the police team led by DSP N Babu, CI B Bala Maddileti and SIs Anjaneyuylu and Divya conducted a raid on a house at Yerranelakattala area and found the accused organising cricket betting in a rented house in a big way.
The police seized Rs 25,10,500 cash, 38 cellular phones and two LEDs from them. Out of the 17 arrested, 13 were punters and four were bookies.
The SP said that the prime bookie Sayyad Javid Khadri is absconding and search was lunched for his arrested. He involved in a murder case, 7 other criminals cases and he used to organise mutka gambling here.
History sheet was opened against the prime bookie. Mr.Khadri is organising the cricket betting by staying in Hyderabad. The SP said that the punters stake money on every ball, every over and match on the on-going IPL matches.
Interestingly, farmers, traders, realtors, chit fund organisers and medical shop owners were among the punters, the SP said. The SP warned of stringent action if cricket betting or matka gambling organised in the district. The SP appreciated the police officers for busting the major cricket betting racket.
