Agartala, Nov 12 (UNI) Ahead of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC), BJP’s ally in the government IPFT has stepped up its movement for separate Tipraland elevating the status of existing ADC and they would hold a demonstration in Jantar Mantar of New Delhi on Dec 2 next.
The assistant general secretary and spokesperson of IPFT Mangal Debbaram claimed that the Central government in principle accepted the demand of separate Tipraland after excluding Ladakh from Kashmir and host it as a union territory and said, “We moved a step forward towards the demand, which IPFT has been doing since 2009.”
From the upcoming demonstration in New Delhi, IPFT would press for their demand of Tipraland, he said, adding that hundreds of students and professionals belong to indigenous community living in Delhi would take part in the agitation besides, about 500 volunteers from the state. The centre should introduce Tipraland bill in the next session of the parliament in the line of Ladakh, he urged.
Expressing displeasure over delay dealing in publication of the recommendation of high level modality committee, was constituted in September last year as per the agreement between BJP and IPFT before last assembly election to oversee the socio-economic, cultural and linguistic development of tribal of Tripura Debbarma said it was stipulated to publish the modality committee within a year for implementation of the projects.
“It is surprising the modality committee had held several rounds of meeting with political parties, intellectual and NGOs and the latest meeting was held on Oct 16-17 this year but as of now ministry of home affairs did not publish the recommendation of the committee for the development of tribals in Tripura,” Mangal stated.
The IPFT leadership also urged the centre to pass the 125th amendment bill of the sixth schedule of the constitution, which has already been approved by the Central cabinet on January 23 this year. The proposal for amendment of the sixth schedule was mooted in 2012 but it has not yet been passed by the parliament, he mentioned.
The party stands with the demand of displaced Bru tribals settled in six camps of North Tripura and demanded to resettle the remaining dwellers in Tripura instead of Mizoram.
The party leaders argued that displaced Brus was originally from Tripura and long back they were ousted and settled in Mizoram but from there also Brus had to displace in 1997 and leading camp life for past 22 years.
