International Day of Radiology observed

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 8 (UNI) The Kerala Chapter of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA) and the KIMS Hospital jointly observed the sixth International Day of Radiology here today.
The International Day of Radiology is an annual event held with the aim of building greater awareness of the value that radiology contributes to safe patient care, and improving understanding of the vital role radiologists play in the healthcare continuum.
This year “Emergency radiology” has been chosen as the main theme of the day, to highlight the essential role that radiologists play in the emergency room, increasing the quality of care and treatment of patients, IRIA Central Coucil member Dr S Pradeep said.
Medical imaging is one of the most exciting disciplines in health care and in its 122nd year of invention. But the value of these services is not well understood by the public. IRIA, over the years are organising such celebrations to bring in more public attention to this area of medical science, he added.
The day is a joint initiative of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and the American College of Radiology (ACR) , with the full cooperation and involvement of the International Society of Radiology (ISR), as well as umbrella organisations on all continents, including the Asian Oceanian Society of Radiology (AOSR), the Colegio Interamericano de Radiología (CIR), the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), and the Radiological Society of South Africa (RSSA – which also represents neighbouring countries). The European Federation of Radiographer Societies (EFRS) also supports the International Day of Radiology.
