Inter-state drug peddlers among 5 nabbed with heroin, poppy straw across Jammu

Jammu, Dec 7 (UNI) Police on Friday arrested inter-state drug peddlers among five with contraband of heroin and poppy straw across Jammu region.
Three inter-state drug peddlers were arrested with heroin worth Rs one crore and a cash in Gandhi Nagar area of Jammu.
Police on Thursday evening laid a surprise naka at Valmiki Chowk in Gandhi Nagar and intercepted a car (PB08CJ-6268) for frisking.
“During the checking of the vehicle, one-kg heroin was recovered from the posession of the driver identified as Sohail Ahmed of Halwaie, Brijbehara, Kashmir,” Vinay Kumar, SP South here told reporters.
He said two more occupants in the car identified as Ali Mohammad alias Ishaq of Karalpora, Kupwara and Pardeep Kumar of Rawastar, Hanuman Garh, Rajasthan presently living in Ludhiana were frisked and Rs 13 lakh cash was recovered from their possession.
However, a case under relevant sections was registered and investigation started, said the officer.
Meanwhile in another incident, police nabbed a truck driver with contraband of poppy straw at Lakhanpur in Kathua district.
“Acting on a tip off, Police team during checking duty at Lakhanpur intercepted one truck (PB29R-7089) coming from Kashmir towards Punjab and recovered 40 kilograms poppy straw concealed in five boxes,” police here said.
They said that the driver namely Avtar Singh of Village Galib Kalan, Jagraon, Ludhiana, Punjab was arrested on the spot while a case under relevant sections was registered and investigations started.
However, in Ramban district police arrested a smuggler during a patrolling on Mehar-Maitra road.
SSP Ramban Anita Sharma said that on seeing the patrol part a suspected person carrying a bag started fleeing from the spot but alert cops after brief chase apprehended him.
On his search 500 grams of charas was recovered from the bag and he was identified as Mohammad Subhan, resident of Mehar, Ramban.
Meanwhile a case under NDPS Act was registered and investigations started.
