Int'l level sports stadium to be dedicated to Arun Jaitley in bordering Hiranagar village of Kathua

Jammu, Nov 12 (UNI) A sports stadium of International repute will be dedicated to the former union minister and BJP stalwart Arun Jaitley in bordering Hiranagar town of Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.

Mr Jaitley, who passed away on August 24, has close connect with Hiranagar as it is a native village of his in-laws.

A team of engineers of Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council led by the Deputy Commissioner Kathua O P Bhagat on Tuesday inspected an allotted site of 200 kanals of land marked in Hiranagar to construct the stadium.

"The survey of feasibility of the marked land has been completed," O P Bhagat, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua here told UNI adding, 'Once constructed, the stadium will provide facilities for sports like cricket, football, hockey, which will give boost to sports activities in the bordering belt.'

'The government had selected 200 kanals of land as per requirement, which is close to the Dussehra ground,' he said, adding that the district administration has issued instructions to the Sports Council to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) at the earliest so that construction work begins soon and the stadium can be dedicated in memory of country’s one of the finest leaders Mr Arun Jaitley.

'I had met the Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju in September and proposed to upgrade the Hiranagar Stadium,' Union Minister in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh here told UNI.

He added that since then, the exercise of bringing up international level stadium was intensified.

Dr Singh further said the DPR will soon be sent to the Central Government for approval and after clearing all documentations and release of funds, it will be developed into an excellent sports stadium.

'Mr Jaitley had a special connection with Jammu and Kashmir especially with Hiranagar being his in-laws place,' said Dr Singh.

Sangeeta Jaitley, wife of Mr Jaitely, is the daughter of one of the tall leaders of Jammu and Kashmir, Girdhari Lal Dogra.

Dogra was a senior Congress leader and a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. He served twice as a Member of Parliament and six times as a Member of the Legislative Assembly.

'The sports activities will get push once the stadium is completed and it will also open avenues for youth of bordering village besides chasing their dreams in the field of sports and games,' said Dr Singh.
