INS decides to implead itself in Shillong Times case

New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) The Indian Newspaper Society (INS) has decided to implead itself in connection with the conviction of Shillong Times’ editor Patricia Mukhim and publisher Shobha Chaudhuri by the Meghalaya High Court on a charge of contempt of court.
The Executive Committee of the INS, which met here on Thursday, is concerned over several issues that arose from the judgement as they impinged on the Freedom of the Press.
The Executive Committee has unanimously decided that the Society should implead itself as a party in any appeal that the Shillong Times may prefer and agitate its concerns, the INS said in a statement here.
