Cape Town, Feb 28 (UNI) Captain Dane van Niekerk and Chloe Tryon missed out on the
South Africa squad for the limited-overs series in India as they continued their recovery
from back injuries.
South Africa were also without Masabata Klaas, who “sustained an eleventh-hour injury”
that ruled her out from the 17-member squad. That apart, the squad was unchanged from
the side that took on Pakistan in the home series in January and February.
Van Niekerk and Tryon suffered lower back injuries in September last year and are in
various stages of recovery. The duo missed the series against Pakistan as well, where
Sune Luus stood in as captain in place of van Niekerk, and helped the side sweep the
ODIs and win the T20Is 2-1.
“It is really exciting to finally have this tour confirmed and announce our squad that will
do duty here in India,” said Hilton Moreeng, the head coach. “We are looking forward to
getting out there to see our ladies prove themselves under different playing conditions."
“India is always a wonderful place to tour and we are looking forward to the challenge
that lies ahead,” Moreeng added.
South Africa and India will clash in five ODIs and three T20Is, with the tour set to begin
with the first ODI on March 7. The squad will have to observe a six-day quarantine period
upon their arrival in Lucknow, where all the matches will take place.
