Inhabitants blocked NH for potable water in Tripura

Ambassa (Tripura), Jan 21 (UNI) At least five hundred local inhabitants have today blocked the National Highway 08 demanding regular supply of potable water at Raipasa area in the subdivision of Ambassa in the northern Tripura district of Dhalai here.
The agitators from local tribal dominated habitat of Hadukolok Para alleged that, they have only one pump to meet their needs of water. After long demands, the Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) department has started providing potable water using vehicle. But some two months ago the facility has been stopped. And adding to the plight, the single water pump has turned out of order 17 days ago.
"We have several times knocked the DWS department for taking the pump into order. But it has yielded nothing. And we are quenching our thirst with polluted water from local streams and ponds", has been alleged by one of the agitators identified as Rabichandra Halam. After three hours of blockade, the administration rushed to the spot and has assured to take early action to resolve the plight.
