Industry welcomes National Civil Aviation Policy

New Delhi, June 15 (UNI) Indian industry has welcomed the National Civil Aviation Policy with a hope that it will be a turning point in Indian Aviation sector creating a lot of opportunities for everyone.
Commenting on the Policy, Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Civil Aviation Committee Co-Chairman Palash Roy Chowdhury said, “It is outstanding that the Cabinet has cleared the National Civil Aviation Policy (NCAP). It’s a progressive policy-framework towards ensuring a safe and sustainable development of the aviation sector in India. The comprehensive, well thought out policy will pave the way for a balanced aviation growth in the country.”
“It would help in stimulating growth and competitiveness of Indian aviation sector when implemented effectively; and would make flying more affordable for domestic flyers and India more accessible to international travelers,” added Mr Chowdhury.
In its reaction Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ASSOCHAM) said, “The new aviation policy is a turning point for India’s civil aviation sector as it frees the operators from the shackles of 5/20 rule for flying overseas. The step would surely attract more investment in the aviation which in any case had become quite viable after a sharp correction in the fuel prices.”
Secretary General, ASSOCHAM, D S Rawat said, “The capping of the air fare would propel the regional connectivity and would provide an affordable alternate to the first class railways tickets which are not available on demand. However, capping of the fares should ensure that the operators are not made to suffer losses on the short haul routes. The economics of the concept should be properly worked out.”
The decision comes along with other key initiatives taken by the Union Cabinet which include merger of the SBI associates with the parent banks and the steps to accommodate the promoters of the companies under heavy debt, said its Secretary General.
Amar Abrol, CEO, AirAsia India in his reaction said, “the National Civil Aviation Policy is a progressive one and as a nation we are one step closer to strengthening and growing aviation in India. As far as our strategy goes, ours is an ‘India first’ strategy. The various changes that have been proposed to the policy will enable us to live up to our promise “Now Everyone Can Fly’. The objective of taking flying to the masses by making it affordable and convenient is well thought through by the government. We look forward to welcoming many first time fliers as we grow our footprint in India.”
“Though a 0/0 or 0/10 would have been more than welcome, the amendments that have been made to the policy are encouraging. The NCAP gives us clear direction to ramp up our operations in India and grow our business in the domestic segment before we scale our operations to fly international,” he said.
He said, “We will now focus on aggressively investing in India and increasing the fleet size from 6 at present and achieving the target of 20 aircraft. The growth in Aviation has a cascading effect on the economy and AirAsia will contribute to this economic growth in India.”
