Kathmandu, Aug 11(UNI) The eighth meeting of Nepal-India Oversight Mechanism would be held on August 17 in Kathmandu, Nepal's Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali announced on Tuesday.
The meeting would discuss large India-funded projects in Nepal, and this would be the first step towards resumption of dialogue between the two countries.
Relations between the two countries have soured, following the KP Sharma Oil-led government's controversial act of adopting a new map of Nepal, which shows some parts of India as Nepalese territory.
This would the first time in nine months, when there would be a dialogue between the two neighbouring countries.
There is an alternative to talks and the ties between the two nations cannot be held hostage "to the differences over the boundary issue,' The Kathmandu Post quoted Mr Gyawali as saying.
The Nepal-India Oversight Mechanism was set up after the then Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal paid a state visit to India in September, 2016. The mechanism oversees the implementation of bilateral projects and enables steps to ensure that these are completed within the set deadline.
Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shanker Das Bairagi would lead the Nepali delegation, while Indian Ambassador to Nepal Vinay Mohan Kwatra will head the Indian side.
