Indigenous tech played decisive role in 'Operation Sindoor': Dr G Satish Reddy

Varanasi, Sep 5 (UNI) Former Chairman of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister Dr G Satish Reddy today said that India's success in 'Operation Sindoor' is attributed to indigenous technologies such as drones, anti-drone systems, drone-based weapons, surveillance equipment and other defence systems. Dr Reddy participated as the chief guest in the 'Research and Innovation Day' programme organised by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-BHU) on the occasion of Teachers' Day at the Swatantrata Bhavan of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) here.
In his address during the programme, Dr Reddy said that this operation was fought on the strength of indigenous technology and self-reliance, which ensured the security of the country. "During Operation Sindoor, precise attacks were carried out on terrorist hideouts, bunkers, air defence systems and Air Force bases. Also, indigenous anti-drone, anti-UAV, anti-helicopter and anti-missile systems thwarted any threat," he said. Appreciating the role of IITs and other institutes, he said that India is now becoming globally competitive in the technical field. "IITs are continuously improving their quality and strengthening their position in the global rankings, which reflects India's technological and innovation potential," he said. BHU Vice Chancellor Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, who was present as the special guest at the event, said that based on the experience of working in various innovation and research structures in the last 15 years, it was a pleasure to see that the number of patents filed and granted by IIT (BHU) has increased significantly.
On this occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) and IIT (BHU). The MoU was signed by CEO Mayur Maheshwari on behalf of UPSIDA and Dean (Research and Development) Prof. Rajesh Kumar on behalf of the institute. On the occasion of Teachers' Day, four teachers of the institute were honoured with the 'Best Teachers Award' in four different categories. Director of the institute Prof Amit Patra said that increasing the number of researchers and teachers is essential to increase research output. He stressed, "We should work not for high rankings but for excellence. Progress systematically, be ambitious, collaborate with institutions in India and abroad and contribute to solving global problems."
