Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 26 (UNI) A large number of Indians languishing in Sharjah jails on various charges except those not involved in serious criminal cases will be released, UAE Supreme Council member and Sharjah ruler Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi said here today. Keralites and foreign nationals, who are not involved in criminal cases, will be released from various jails in Sharjah, the ruler said during his convocation acceptance speech at the Rajbhavan. The Sharjah ruler announced his decision following Chief Minister Pinarayi Vjiayan's appeal that Malayalees who are lodged in Sharjah jails on the charges various crimes be released. In response to the Chief Minister's request, the Sharjah ruler said "several people from Kerala and people from other countries are imprisoned in our jails on the charges of various crimes. The Chief Minister requested me to send back Malayalees, lodged in the jails, to their native places. But, I asked him why should we send them back. We are freeing all of them, who are not committed serious crimes, and ready to help find jobs there itself." Informing that many Malayalees, imprisoned in jails over crimes not in serious nature were released in Sharjah this morning itself, the Sharjah ruler said those who have completed three years term in connection with civil cases and cheque bounce cases, would also be released.
