Indian Railways to provide cooked food to needy during lockdown

New Delhi, Mar 29 (UNI) The IRCTC on Sunday supplied a total of 11,030 lunch meals to needy people, migrant labourers, a few old age homes and others across the country, who have found themselves caught in the national lockdown.
The IR has decided to provide bulk cooked food with paper plates to the needy people from the locations, where it has base kitchens of IRCTC, an official statement here said.
On Sunday, in Delhi, 5,030 meals were provided, followed by Bengaluru - 2,000; Hubli - 700; Bombay Central - 1,500; Howrah/Sealdah - 500; Patna - 400; TATA - 400; Ranchi - 300 and Kathiar - 200.
Following is the list of base kitchens of IRCTC zonewise: South Central Railway: Vijaywada; Western Railway: Ahmedabad, Mumbai Central; East Coast Railway: Khurdha Road; South Eastern Railway: Balasore; Northern Railway: New Delhi, Paharganj; North Central Railway: Prayagraj, Jhansi, Kanpur; Central Railway: CSMT, Pune, Sholapur, Bhusawal; West Central Railway: Itarsi; South Western Railway: Bangalore, Hubbali;
Southern Railway: Tiruanantpuram, Chengalpattu, Katpadi, Mangalore; Eastern Railway: Sealdah, Howrah; East Central Eailway: Rajendranagar; North Frontier Railway: Katihar, the statement added.
The GMs/DRMs of Zone and division concerned are expected to provide their inputs as well to enhance the outreach of these efforts of IRCTC, which will produce and provide food on demand.
Officers and divisions are sending indents. Distribution will be done by RPF and/or other Railway authorities. The assistance of NGOs, volunteers may also be taken for this exercise.
Working in a team, the IRCTC, along with RPF and NGOs in various Railway Zones, is supplying cooked food with paper plates to needy people. While delivering the food to needy persons, social distancing and hygiene is being observed.
The IR and the IRCTC are gearing up to meet any higher demand to provide food to needy in times of lockdown, which has been imposed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
IRCTC is ready for any contingency and adequate stocks of foodgrains and other raw material are being maintained.
