Indian passenger car market holds great potential

Bengaluru, Apr 3 (UNI) Despite being the third largest passenger car market in the world, India had a huge untapped potential and would continue to maintain a high trajectory growth, a senior Tata Motors official said today,

Talking to UNI on the sidelines of the launch of the latest model 'Tigor' here, Mr Vivek Srivatsa, Head of passenger vehicle business unit of Tata Motors, said that currently in India only one of every 15 people have a car as compared to 9 out of ten people in the western world. There is a huge untapped potential and the industry should witness continuous growth for some more years.

He said Tata Motors is coming out with newer models to capture greater market share from the present five per cent and hoped that the launch of Tigor, an urban population oriented model should trigger this growth. Manufactured at the Sanand Plant which has a capacity of 200,000 vehicles a year, Tigor is placed in a position that was between a small sedan and a bigger hatchback with an inspiring style that aimed to attract young and fast paced generation that is looking for upgrading their first vehicle.

Built on the Tiago platform and coming out in both petrol and diesel versions, Tigor offered an excellent value proposition and unique first in segment features to cater to the evolving customer he said adding that the company was recapturing the consumer mindspace which was helping it to strengthen its brand proposition.
