New Delhi/Attari, Mar 14 (UNI) The delegations from India and Pakistan are holding talks at Attari border town in Punjab on Thursday to discuss and finalize the modalities for the Kartarpur Corridor.
"Commitment to fulfill a dream," tweeted MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar as the parleys got underway.
"Talks begin between India and Pakistan to discuss and finalize the modalities for the Kartarpur Corridor, at Attari, Amritsar, that will facilitate Indian pilgrims to visit the holy shrine of Gurudwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur," MEA spokesman said.
The government officials in Delhi on Wednesday expressed hope that forward movement will be made in talks with Pakistan for the Kartarpur Sahib corridor.
India is also hoping for 'formal agreements' with Pakistan on two fronts -- One is essential features of the Memorandum of Agreement which will deal with "operational modalities" of the Corridor. The second area wherein broad agreement is expected is "infrastructures and the state-of-the-art Passenger Terminal Building Complex at Kartarpur Sahib Corridor".
"The issues like alignments of structures essentially from engineering point of view would also be discussed," the source said.
"We are looking forward in the light of the progress we have already made...We are hoping that we will make further progress tomorrow. We are approaching this meeting with a very constructive and positive mindset and we generally expect that the Government of Pakistan would reciprocate in commensurate manner," an official has said.
