New Delhi, Jul 29 (UNI) Clearing the air over Indian national Gurdip Singh, who was slated for execution last night in Indonesia, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today said he was not executed. "Indian Ambassador in Indonesia has informed me that Gurdip Singh whose execution was fixed for last night, has not been executed,' she wrote on Micro Blogging site, Twitter. Singh is among the 10 foreigners and four Indonesians, condemned to death by local judiciary. Of these 14 prisoners, four were reportedly executed this morning in Indonesia despite strong protests from international rights groups. Such media reports fueled speculations that Gurdip was among those, who were executed. India is making all out efforts to save Singh from execution in Indonesia, where his appeal against death sentence on charges of drug trafficking has been turned down by a court. 'We have reached out to the foreign office and Malaysian leadership,' Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Vikas Swarup had said yesterday, while replying to a question at the weekly media briefing. He had said Singh's lawyer Mohammad Afazal has said that he can file a mercy plea with the President, adding that the Indian embassy in Malaysia was exhausting all legal recourse. Singh had been found guilty of smuggling 300 gm heroin into Indonesia in 2004 and sentenced to death by a state district court in Banten province of the country. UNI RG SB 1755
