Indian Embassy in Damascus is in touch with all Indians, they are safe: Sources

New Delhi, Dec 8 (UNI) Amid the political upheaval in Syria with Islamist militants of the Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS) storming the capital Damascus, the Indian Embassy continues to function and is in touch with all Indian nationals, and they are safe, sources said on Sunday.
“The Indian Embassy continues to remain operational in Damascus, Syria. Embassy is in touch with all Indian nationals, and they are safe.
“The Embassy remains available to assist Indian nationals in Syria,” the sources said.
There are about 90 Indian nationals in Syria, including 14 who are working in various UN organizations.
The statement comes as Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad departed the country after giving orders for a peaceful transfer of power. However, he did not say where he was now or whether the Russian military planned to stay in Syria.
The Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS) militants declared they had ousted Assad after seizing control of Damascus on Sunday.
