Indian Army proud of Gurkha soldiers, ex-servicemen, says President

Kathmandu, Nov 4 (UNI) President Pranab Mukherjee today said the Indian Government and Indian Army were proud of the Gurkha soldiers and ex-servicemen, describing them as the ''foundational pillars of the friendship between Nepal and India'' who had earned a name for themselves in the Indian Army.
Addressing a gathering of Gurkha ex-servicemen of the Indian Army at the Pension Payment Office at the tourist city of Pokhara, the President said it was a matter of pride that the brave Gurkhas had been serving in India since the past 200 years with exemplary courage and sincerity.
Today 32,000 Gurkha soldiers were serving in the Indian Army and around 1,26,000 ex-servicemen and their dependents were drawing pension in Nepal.
